Justin Thomas hit a 67 for the third day running to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the SBS Tournament of Champions.
The American was in red hot form again in Hawaii and now sits two shots in front of Japan's Hideki Matsuyama.
Overnight joint-leader Ryan Moore had hoped to keep pace with Thomas but eventually fell four shots behind his countryman and is joined in a tie for third by William McGirt and Jimmy Walker.
Patrick Reed and Walker made early birdies to make it a four-way share of the lead at one point but Thomas eventually moved on with a hat-trick of birdies from the third, while Reed made three bogeys and finished on 12-under.
Brendan Steele sits alone in sixth on 11-under par after a round of 67 while defending champion Jordan Spieth moved into the top 20 after his round of 70 left him on eight-under par.
